Importing from Survey123

A form built in Survey123 can become a terranode survey without typing its questions again. Upload the form's XLSForm spreadsheet and terranode creates the survey and opens it in the builder. Anything terranode can't represent is left out or simplified, and listed for you to review.

Organization owners and editors can import surveys.

Get the XLSForm

  • Survey123 Connect: the form's folder has a .xlsx file with the form's name. That spreadsheet is the XLSForm.
  • Survey123 website: open the form, then use Export to XLSForm from the form's menu.

Only the form comes across. Responses already collected in Survey123 are not imported.

Import

  1. On Formulários, choose Novo formulário and then Importar do Survey123.
  2. Drop the .xlsx file, or choose Selecionar arquivo. It can be up to 5 MB.
  3. The new survey opens in the builder, named after the form's title (or the file's name if the form has no title). Above the fields, a summary says what didn't come across. Expand O que mudou na importação to see each item.

The survey is already saved, and nobody has answered it yet, so any field can still be renamed, changed or removed. The summary isn't kept: once you dismiss it or leave the page, it doesn't come back.

A file is refused, and no survey is created, when it isn't an .xlsx spreadsheet, has no survey sheet, has more than 2,000 rows on the survey sheet or 20,000 on the choices sheet, or has no question terranode can import.

What comes across

Survey123 question terranode field
text Short text, or long text with the multiline appearance
email Email
integer, decimal, range Number
select_one, select_multiple Choice, single or multiple, with the options of its list
date, dateTime, time Date, Date and time, Time
geopoint, geotrace, geoshape Geometry: point, line or polygon
image Photos (one photo), or Signature with the signature appearance

Also carried over:

  • Labels, without their formatting. When the form has labels in several languages, Portuguese is used if there is one.
  • Required questions marked yes.
  • Choice options, using each choice's label. A select_one … or_other question accepts answers typed in by the person collecting.
  • Number limits written as . >= 0 and . <= 300.
  • Defaults to the current date or time: today() or now() on a date question, and now() on a dateTime or time question.
  • Display conditions (relevant) of these kinds, joined all by and or all by or:
    • ${condicao} = 'ruim' on a single choice
    • selected(${defeitos}, 'corrosao') on a multiple choice
    • ${altura} > 10, and =, >=, <, <=, on a number
    • ${observacao} != '', or string-length(${observacao}) > 0: the question was answered

A condition on a group applies to every question in it.

What doesn't come across

In Survey123 In terranode
Repeats (begin repeat) and the questions in them Removed. Each one is listed as a removed section with its questions, at the top of the summary.
Groups The questions stay, in order, without the group.
note, calculate, hidden, file, rank, and metadata like start or username Removed
select_one_from_file Short text
Any other default value (default) Removed. The summary quotes it.
A second location question Removed: a survey has one location
Hints Removed
Other display conditions, conditional required, other constraints Removed. The question is always shown, optional, and a number gets limits of −1,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000. The summary quotes the original expression so you can redo it in the builder.
Question names that aren't lowercase letters, digits and _ Adjusted, e.g. Número_Torre becomes numero_torre
