Google Sheets

A tab of a Google Sheets spreadsheet can become a data source of points in a catalog. terranode reads it again on every sync, so edits in the sheet reach the map without exporting a CSV. Nothing is ever written back to the sheet.

Only organization owners manage integrations.

Connect a Google account

  1. Go to Integrações and add an integration with Google Sheets as its origin.
  2. Sign in with the Google account that has the spreadsheets, and approve. terranode asks for your email and for access to the files you choose in it, nothing else.

The person who connects the account is the only one who can add spreadsheets from it, because adding one opens that account's Google Drive. Other owners see who that is on the integration's page.

Add a tab

  1. On the integration's page, choose Adicionar planilha and pick the spreadsheet in Google's window. Shared drives are listed too.
  2. Choose a tab. A tab without latitude and longitude columns is listed but can't be chosen.
  3. Check the result. terranode proposes the coordinate columns from their names, and you can pick others. You see the column types, how many rows will be imported, and every row that can't be.
  4. Choose Adicionar aba. The spreadsheet becomes a catalog with its name, and the tab a data source named after the tab. The first sync starts right away.

Renaming the tab in Google Sheets doesn't break anything: the next sync updates the same data source.

What a tab needs

  • A header in row 1. Every column with values needs a name, and two columns can't have the same name (Nome and nome count as the same).
  • Latitude and longitude columns. terranode recognizes them by name: Latitude, lat, Longitude, lon, long, lng, names that start or end with them (Latitude (WGS84), long_corrigida), and x/y exactly.
  • Decimal degrees. -23.55, or -23,55 typed as text. Degrees, minutes and seconds (23°32'51"S) aren't read. Latitude goes from -90 to 90, longitude from -180 to 180, and neither can be empty.
  • One kind of value per column. A column of numbers with one n/a in it becomes a text column.

Empty rows are skipped. Any other row with a bad coordinate stops the import.

When a sync is blocked

Every sync checks the tab before importing it. It stops, and changes nothing on the map, when:

  • a column was removed or renamed,
  • a column changed type (numbers that now hold text),
  • a row has a missing or invalid coordinate.

A new column doesn't block: it's imported, and from then on it's expected.

Open Histórico de sincronizações in the tab's menu to see what happened. It lists the columns that changed, or the rows to fix with their row number in the sheet. Fix the sheet and sync again.

If the change is on purpose, a renamed column for instance, choose Importar novamente como nova fonte instead. terranode checks the tab again and creates a new data source from its current columns. The old data source stays in the catalog with its data, style and project layers, marked as Desconectada, and isn't updated anymore.

Sync on a schedule

Choose Agendar sincronização in the tab's menu to sync it on its own: every hour, every day at a time, every week on a day at a time, or a custom cron expression in UTC. Times are in your browser's time zone. A schedule can't run more often than every 15 minutes, and a sync starts up to 15 minutes after its time. ArcGIS layers can be scheduled the same way.

A scheduled sync first checks whether the spreadsheet changed. If it didn't, nothing is downloaded, and the history shows the check as Sem alterações na origem. Choosing sync by hand always downloads.

A schedule pauses, and the tab shows Agendamento pausado with the reason, when a sync is blocked (see above), after five failed syncs in a row, or while the integration needs reconnecting. Fix the cause, then choose Retomar, or sync by hand: a sync that works resumes the schedule. Reconnecting the integration resumes its schedules by itself.

If terranode can't open the spreadsheet

terranode only reaches the spreadsheets picked in Google's window by the account that was connected. If the integration was reconnected with another Google account, or the file was removed from your Drive, syncs fail with a message asking you to pick the spreadsheet again. Pick it once more on the integration's page. Its tabs stay as they were.

If the account removed terranode's access on Google's side, the integration shows an error. Reconnect it.
